The Charter Township of Alpena's Clerk's Office is responsible for a number of different functions both to the Township Residents as well as Township Board of Trustees Members, Township Employees, Departments, and finally State and Local Government. While serving as the Official Keeper of Records, the Township Clerk's Office maintains all files and permanent records of the Township such as Ordinances, Resolutions, Township Board of Trustee meeting minutes, and all Employee records. 

The Clerk is also a member of the Board of Trustees and attends all Township Board Meetings as well as prepares, distributes, and maintains all Board of Trustees meeting agendas; maintains an accurate record of the proceedings of the meetings; publishes legal notices as required; provides voter registration to residents; serves as custodian of all contracts, deeds, ordinances, resolutions, and township records. The Clerk's Office shall administer oaths as required under the laws of the State of Michigan and shall be custodian of the Township Seal.

The Clerk's Office maintains all personnel records, injury reports, processing of payroll and all related reports.  Administers all benefit plans, worker's compensation records, pension and payroll deductions.  

Freedom of Information Requests
The Clerk's office is responsible for processing all Freedom of Information Act requests. Upon receipt of a request, the document is routed to the proper department for review and follow-up.  Visit our document center for any necessary forms in order to expedite your request.  If you have any questions please contact the Clerk's office for further instructions.
   
The Clerk is the general accountant of the Township with responsibility for all financial records. Such records shall be accounted for in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and Uniform Chart of Accounts as required by State Law. The Clerk's office is responsible for all disbursements and accounts payable functions.   All financial records, financial reports, prepares budgets, and prepares for the financial audit.

Notary Service
The Clerk's Office provides notary services to residents free of charge. A Notary is actually witnessing you sign a document, and not verifying the accurateness of the document being signed. Please do NOT PRE-SIGN your documents before coming into a notary's office. If you need a "Certified True Copy" of a document, you need to go to the place of origin to obtain it. A notary cannot certify a true copy of a document. If you have any questions, please contact one of our staff members at (989) 356-0297 #6.

The Clerk's Office is also responsible for maintenance of the Qualified Voter File which is the official voter registration through the State of Michigan. Currently, the Township Clerk's Office  has over 7,600 registered voters.  For more information regarding voter registration and voter information please click on the Clerk's office tab to the left and select the Election Forms  tab.
